Whenever you are looking for a fine piece of fused glass artwork, make sure it has been carefully annealed to ensure a long life and strength. Don’t forget that you should care for Glass Art as it is still glass and abuse and misuse can result in damage.
You should value any of the pieces of glass art you have purchased and give it the tender loving care it deserves.
If it is a unique, artistic, and special piece of fused glass artwork or sculpture you have probably paid a significant amount for it. This is because of its uniqueness, the materials involved and the love and effort made in its creation by the artist. You should always take great care of your glass art piece.
If it is a more practical piece of glass art, such as a candy dish or a piece of everyday jewelry such as a necklace, and not so artistic or unique it probably didn’t cost a lot. In this case you may consider it as more disposable and thus will be happy to wash it in your dishwasher and subject it to more wear. But that is not our recommendation.
Glass Art can be washed in a dishwasher, but it’s not recommended. Glass art is fragile and you know what happens to other glass ware when you run it in your dishwasher. Without proper care, it will get knocked around and it will get chipped. And too much exposure to the extreme conditions in a dishwasher will affect the surface finish and colors. It is strongly recommend washing your glass artwork in warm soapy water by itself to avoid that clunking around and potential damage.
It is also not recommend placing your glass art in an oven. Continued use of the piece in the extreme temperature changes the look and feel and baked on food will result in damage.
So here is a basic list of things to consider when using and maintaining your glass art.
- Try not to use metal utensils. Metal will chip and damage the glass. Even those toughened glass cooking dishes scratch and chip with the continual use of metal utensils.
- Do not put your glass art in a microwave oven. Some glass art pieces have include metal inclusions and this can cause damage to the piece and potentially to your microwave.
- Do not place glass art in a conventional oven. Removing baked on food and temperature changes will not be kind to it
- Do not place glass art in a dishwasher. Overtime this may result in deterioration of the piece and potentially cause physical damage to it.
- Wash your glass art by hand with warm soapy water. Preferably alone, and dry it well to avoid hard water stains.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners on glass art. It is glass and it will scratch over time.
